"There are 300 people here whose rights are being potentially
infringed upon," not just by intrusive government, but by big
business, Peck said.
Like others at the hearing, he cited the sushi factor. Sushi, like raw-
ish red meat, is potentially crawling with yucky bacteria, yet both
are perfectly legal and widely available to any gastronome
adventurous enough to eat them.
Which leads many raw-milk drinkers to conclude they and their
beverage are being discriminated against.

Dairy farmers and representatives of the conventional end of the
dairy industry had all shown up to support shutting down cow-share
operations, he pointed out.
California, Connecticut and New Mexico are among the only states
where raw milk can be sold in stores. About 18 states, including
Colorado, ban sales altogether. And many states have adopted
various forms of compromise: some allow raw milk sales at farms
only; some, like Idaho, require raw-milk sellers to be licensed; at
least one - Kentucky - requires a prescription for purchase of raw
milk; and Tennessee and North Dakota allow raw milk to be sold as
animal food, according to realmilk.com, a website that tracks and
promotes raw milk consumption.
Despite those bans, residents of most states can get raw milk one
way or another, often through cow-shares programs, and often only
with serious effort.
